Safety Disposal Of Old Freezer

A Refrigerator (often called a “fridge” in short) is a cooling appliance comprising a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump–chemical or mechanical means–to transfer heat from it to the external environment, cooling the contents to a temperature below ambient. Refrigerators are extensively used to store foods which spoil from bacterial growth if not refrigerated. A device described as a “refrigerator” maintains a temperature a few degrees above the freezing point of water; a similar device which maintains a temperature below the freezing point of water is called a “freezer.” The refrigerator is a relatively modern invention among kitchen appliances.

There has been a change in the law as to how you can dispose of your Fridge/Freezer. All ozone-depleting substances (ODS), including CFC’s, must be removed from refrigeration equipment before it is scrapped or recycled. This includes the ODS in the cooling system of your appliance and the insulating foam inside the walls and door. In short Fridges contain hazardous gas, and therefore need special disposal.

Fridge Freezer Disposal: The Law

Disposing of a fridge freezer can seem confusing and more trouble than it once was. The reason is that the disposal of fridge freezers is now tightly regulated because of the fact that some components of fridges can be extremely harmful to the environment. Since January 2002, all ozone-depleting substances (ODS) must be removed from a fridge before it can be recycled or thrown away. Anyone found not disposing of a fridge freezer properly and this includes fly tipping is eligible for prosecution and a fine of up to £2,500.

As a householder, you have a few options when it comes to disposing of your old fridge:

Ask your retailers to take it away. Some retailers have decided not to continue to collect your old fridge or freezer when your new one is delivered, due to the cost. To properly dispose of an old fridge, the gas in the fridge needs to be collected to prevent it from escaping into the atmosphere. This may cost a little more but it’s not only environmentally friendly, it’s also important for your safety! In fact, it’s very difficult to get someone to take away an old fridge freezer free of charge. Charges for collecting a fridge freezer range from £5 to £30.

Your first port of call for disposing of a fridge freezer should be your Local Authority to find out what their charges for fridge collection actually are and whether there is any help available for those that need to dispose of a fridge but can’t afford to pay the collection fee. They may be able to waive the fee in certain circumstances so it’s worth asking about this.

Fridge Freezer Disposal:

Your Local Authority will also be able to advise you on how and where you can dispose of the fridge yourself. If you can transport the fridge freezer yourself (or get someone to help you) to a designated hazardous waste recycling site then you shouldn’t have to pay for this. It’s important that you do find out which specific sites you can use as not all waste recycling sites are suitable for fridge freezers. You may need some proof of identification to prove the fridge was for personal, rather than business use.

Private Fridge Freezer Collections:

Additionally it’s possible that a local furniture recycling or waste removal company in your area will collect the fridge for a lower price than the one that your Local Authority charges. Many of these companies refurbish or use parts from old furniture and white goods so that they can provide household goods free or at low-cost to people in need. With this in mind, if you have financial difficulties and can’t afford to pay a fridge freezer collection fee, these companies may consider waiving or reducing the fee.

Should you tip an appliance repair person?

“Tip an appliances person” well now, after the guy that looked at my furnace told me the damper was stuck and I watched him turn it with a pliers, then write out a bill for $65.00 No way.

After the Sears guy told me there was a second filter under my water heater most people don’t know about that was plugged and I unplugged it, He said he had to write out a bill, for $85.00 for about one minute of work. I asked him if Sears is making money this way, he smiled.

And, you want to know if we should “Tip” them. I would like to rip up the billing, and stick the pieces where the Sun don’t shine.

When I had my well done. one of the three men walked around the well (I did many of them myself in the old days) tapped, for some reason on the casing, then looked at a glass of water, it was obviously full of granules of sand and oil, he told me “Yep you need everything new” I told him I already knew that, I wanted an estimate, he quoted $3000.00. And he said the test was $ $85.00 I told him to get the heck off my property.

The well guy I hired started working right away, he knew what was wrong, charged me $1800.00 for everything, got three more jobs on my street, I made him dinner and brought it out to him. And when he left, I gave him an extra $25.00 knowing it was his business.

Some Of The Best Beverage Refrigerator Brands

Beverage refrigerators are used to help keep people’s favorite wine, beer, and even sodas at the perfect temperature for drinking. They help to free up room in your standard fridge which is housing all of the necessary food that you need to feed your family that week.

There are two reasons that people invest in these. The first is because they help to provide a cold place for them to stay instead of sitting in the pantry. This means that whenever we want to have some we either have to drink them warm or wait thirty minutes for them to be chilled. The second reason is because it helps to prevent the normal fridge from partly freezing them – which can happen at times.

As with all appliances these are manufactured by a variety of companies and it is up to you to decide which one you feel is the most reliable and has the most features that you can use. The three top manufacturers are Marvel and GE.

Marvel

The models that Marvel produces are generally used to hold and chill wine and beer. They give you the space you need to store the drinks for large parties. They are built with an LED display that helps you to observe the temperature – which can be controlled with their easy touch screen panel.

GE

GE beverage refrigerators are some of the most popular models and also some of the largest. They have the ability to hold over 100 cans and 12 bottles of wine. Their racks are spill proof and can slide in and out with ease. It is built with a tinted glass door that makes it easy for you to see what is inside without having to open it.

Blog – Stovax & Gazco

February 1, 2016  Nic Snell  One Comment  Advice & Information, Wood Burning Stoves & Fires

A common question, but first, what is the difference? Technically, there should be no difference, because well-seasoned logs should be properly dried to below 25% moisture content. But in reality, when one buys ‘seasoned firewood’, it often has a much higher reading. How many times have you heard your local supplier saying that the wood has been ‘down’ for over two years, so very dry, but when you burn it, the stove glass blackens and it struggles to burn? This is because the wood has not properly dried

Recipes for Easy Bake Oven

My daughter got an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas a couple of years ago. She used up the mixes that came with it right away, but was still excited to play with it. But for roughly $2 a cookie, I wasn’t willing to buy more mixes. I found a few recipes for easy bake oven online, but they were unreliable, especially the one that melted to the pan like glass and had to be soaked and scrubbed out over the next three days.

Over the next year or so I tweaked and tested different recipes for Easy Bake Oven. This one is easy, reliable, and delicious. The basic dough can be made in four different flavors, and there are many different add-ins and toppings available. This will be the last recipe for easy bake oven dough you will ever need!

Basic dough:

In a bowl, combine:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine

¾ cup white sugar

¾ cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

Beat together thoroughly. Then add:

1 egg

And beat into dough. It may separate a little. This is not a problem. Add:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

Mix until combined.

This makes a lot of dough, but it keeps in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and freezes well. To

freeze, scoop into balls on a cookie sheet. The balls should be slightly larger than regular cookies, about two tablespoons. Freeze the balls, then transfer them to a freezer bag. When you plug in your easy bake oven, pull out as many cookie dough balls as you need, and let them thaw while the Easy Bake Oven heats up. If a cookie pan won’t fit in your freezer, press the dough into ice cube trays that you have sprayed with nonstick spray, then transfer to a bag when frozen. You may need to use two cubes for each cookie.

When you’re ready to bake, spray the Easy Bake Oven pans with nonstick spray, then press the dough to fill it evenly about half full. Bake for ten minutes. These cookies can also be baked in a 375 degree oven for 8-10 minutes for regular size, 10-13 for the larger Easy Bake Oven size.

If desired, you can easily vary the dough:

For chocolate cookie dough, use 2 cups of flour and ½ cup of baking cocoa

For spice cookie dough, add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, and ¼ teaspoon cloves with the flour.

For peanut butter cookie dough, use ½ cup butter and ½ cup peanut butter. Natural peanut butter does not work well for this recipe. Jif seems to be the most reliable.

There are many add-ins that work well with this dough. They can be stirred in before the dough is froz

en, or they can be kneaded in just before the cookie is baked. Basic dough with chocolate chips is a classic combination, but try the chocolate dough with peanut butter chips or chopped nuts. Raisins or dried apples go well in the spice dough. How about peanut butter dough with M&Ms? You can also sprinkle plain dough with cinnamon and sugar or colored sanding sugar just before baking. You don’t need to limit your cookies to children’s tastes either. Chocolate dough with dried cherries and coconut, anyone?

Easy Bake replacement packets are expensive, and recipes for one or two cookies are time-consuming and tricky. Mix up a batch of this recipe for easy bake oven, and your child can use the Easy Bake Oven any time without fuss or mess. Enjoy!
